At its April 21-22, 2012 meeting, the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) reviewed and approved the site visit report for the focused site visit conducted on March 12-13, 2012, to the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MU-COM) in Indianapolis, Indiana.
At this meeting, COCA also reviewed the initial awarding of Provisional Accreditation to MU-COM. The action of COCA was the following:
- From April 22, 2012 through June 30, 2012, the accreditation status of MU-COM shall be “Pre-accreditation with permission to recruit, but not to admit students or offer instruction.”
- From July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2017, the accreditation status of MU-COM shall be Provisional Accreditation, subject to reduction in status or advancement to Accreditation in 2017 as COCA may determine. Beginning on July 1, 2012, MU-COM may admit students and proceed to offer instruction beginning in the 2013-14 academic year with an approved class size of 150.
If all COCA standards are met appropriately, MU-COM will receive full accreditation in May of 2017.
