Marian University was founded in 1937 and welcomes students of all backgrounds who seek an educational experience framed within
the context of our Franciscan values of dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship. These
values are informed by prayer. The roots of the institution trace back to St. Francis of Assisi, a 13th-Century Italian saint who had a
profound impact on the Catholic faith.
As a part of their medical training, students will be taught about spirituality in medicine, multicultural sensitivity, and understanding
the role of family systems in making treatment plans. Physicians in training will learn to be sensitive to the beliefs of their patients
as a way to respect and honor the dignity of each individual and to obtain the best outcomes.
