Coming Summer 2013 - High School Science Students Can Earn College Credit - 12/17/2012

Attention high school juniors and seniors! Earn college credit for your interest in science.  From June 17 – August 2, 2013, the School of Mathematics and Sciences is offering Individualized Research-Oriented College Credit (iROCC), a summer course designed specifically for high school students interested in science.

Frank A. Gale Integrative and Advanced Science Laboratory
iROCC students will have the opportunity to use the scientific resources and expertise of the faculty and staff of the School of Mathematics and Sciences to complete an independent research project.

According to Loren Bertocci, Ph.D., dean of the School of Mathematics and Sciences, "Far too often, science is is presented as a textbook full of facts. But, in reality, because it is really a process of inquiry, the only way to learn science is to actually do science."

Bertocci added, "We have built iROCC to provide advanced-study students with the opportunity to conduct their own research projects using the purest form of scientific inquiry.  He also commented on the value of the program: "iROCC graduates can then be expected to be much more attractive candidates for admission to the universities of their choosing and, subsequently, much more successful scientists."

Program Requirements:

  • 3.00 grade point average or better
  • Under 19 years of age
  • ACT >= 19 or ACTPLAN 18 / 910 SAT or 91 PSAT
