Associate Dean For Biomedical Sciences Receives International Recognition - 3/26/2012

Dr. Bryan LarsenDr. Bryan Larsen, Marian University’s associate dean for biomedical sciences and a member of the leadership team for the university’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, has been named the Faculty of the Year by Faculty 1000 (F1000). F1000 began as a collaboration of 1,000 international faculty of the world’s leading scientists and clinicians; membership now numbers more than 10,000 experts worldwide. Their evaluations form a fully searchable database containing more than 100,000 records and identifying the best research available.

To recognize the dedication and efforts of its members, F1000 selected one member from each of its 32 faculty to receive an award for the most significant contribution to their specialty area. Winners were chosen by F1000 judges and heads of faculty. Dr. Larsen received the award for his contributions to women’s health.

Larsen has been an F1000 member since 2005; his research combines study of mechanisms of microbial pathogenicity with an interest in infectious diseases relevant to obstetrics and gynecology. Larsen represented the United States among awardees from many countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Italy, Czech Republic, Australia, and Sweden.

“Scholarly evaluation and peer review are essential to the larger process of research. F1000 is one of the important international organizations that make it possible to access authoritative and timely articles on emerging themes in biology and medicine. To be acknowledged in this way by F1000 is a significant milestone in the career of a medical researcher and educator,” said Dr. Paul Evans, DO, founding dean of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

“Receiving the F1000 Faculty of the Year Award is an outstanding achievement in a researcher’s professional career,” says David Coil, DO, president of the Indiana Osteopathic Association (IOA). He continues, “Having Dr. Bryan Larsen as part of the osteopathic community has made our profession proud. Everyone in the IOA is excited about the future opportunities Dr. Larsen and other members of the Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine will bring to the osteopathic community.”
