Math and Science Summer Camps and Teacher Workshops - 5/19/2009

Marian College is offering a wide variety of math and science summer camps to K-12 students, as well as math and science workshops for K-8 teachers.
 
Adventures in Learning
June 15-19 for grades K-2
Students will observe and explore how the world works through hands-on activities and field trips; they’ll gain knowledge about everyday events and living creatures in the EcoLab with a focus on biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.
 
Can We Save the Earth?
June 22-26 for grades 3-5
Students will learn about the some of the environmental issues facing the world today, such as melting ice caps, the shortage of fuel supplies, and the loss of plant and animal species; what changes may occur in their lifetime; and how technology and science can help.
 
The Way Things Work: Science and Math in Everyday Places andThings
June 22-26 for grades 6-8
Students will investigate the role of science and math in their everyday lives.
 
Camp GEMS: Girls Energized by Math and Science
July 13-24 for girls 11-14
A collaborative camp between Girls Incorporated and the Life Science Education Center at Marian College, the girls will learn about construction, philanthropy, and how to give back to the community through field trips and hands-on activities.
 
Advanced Institute for Mathematics and Sciences (AIMS)
Session I June 28-July 10
Session II July 12-July 24
Students in grades 10-12 will be given a head start on college math and science through an intensive two-week residential camp with an emphasis on algebra II, geometry, trigonometry, pre-calculus, differential calculus, chemistry, and physics.
 
Summer Science and Math Teacher Workshop
July 6-10 for K-8 teachers
An intensive summer workshop experience in science and mathematics that gives K-8 teachers an opportunity to earn 30 CRUs, receive certification in the DNR Education Center programs, and apply for a professional development mini-grant while increasing their knowledge in biology, chemistry, math, and physics.
 
Post-Workshop Sessions
Teachers participating in the Marian College Math and Science Teacher Workshop will also have the opportunity to participate in the following supplementary workshops at Marian College at no additional cost.
