Summer Math and Science Camps - 5/24/2010

Marian University is offering various summer math and science camps to K-12 students. The camps will take place in the Marian University EcoLab, which contains approximately 30 acres of functioning wetland habitat and over 25 acres of forest and prairie habitat. Students will spend time in the new sustainable Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust Outdoor Classroom and newly renovated Nina Mason Pulliam (NMP) Nature Center adjacent to the Marian University EcoLab. The NMP Nature Center has numerous educational environment inquiry stations and also houses the Indianapolis Power and Light Resource Center which provides students with outdoor investigatory tools to enhance their summer camp explorations in the wetlands.

Exploring Our Natural World
July 12-16, 2010 for grades K–2
Students will participate in hands-on activities in the NMP Nature Center, Marian University EcoLab wetlands, and on field trips as they explore their living environment and discover the math, biology, chemistry, and physics behind their daily lives.

Experiencing Our Environment through Science, Math, and Art
June 28-July 2, 2010 for grades 3-5
This camp gives students an opportunity to explore their environment from the lab all the way to the painter’s canvas and lots more in between. Students will be encouraged to let their imaginations run wild in art projects and invigorating lab experiments.

Making A Difference for Our Environment
July 19-July 23, 2010 for students in grades 6-8
Students will learn about the dangers that threaten the well-being of the environment and how they can become actively involved in sustaining the environment by reducing their carbon footprint.

Advanced Institute for Math and Science (AIMS)
June 20-July 1 for students in grades 9-12
AIMS offers high school students a way to enhance their math and science skills by focusing on one level of math and one level of science during a four-week residential summer institute with emphasis on: algebra II/geometry, trigonometry/pre-calculus, differential calculus, chemistry, physics, and environmental studies.

Registration is available on Marian University’s web site. For more information, contact Janice Hicks Slaughter, director of K-12 programming and outreach for the Marian University School of Mathematics and Sciences at 317.524.7701 or jhslaughter@marian.edu.
