College Named to President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll - 2/18/2009
The Corporation for National Community Service named Marian College to the 2008 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
The formal announcement was made on February 9, 2009, at the 91st annual Meeting of the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C. There were 635 institutions of higher education named to the honor roll.
Marian College’s commitment to community service helped secure its place on the honor roll; the college’s major service projects include College Mentors for Kids, Students Taking Active Rolls (STAR), activities benefiting Right to Life of Indianapolis, and Knights for Kids, a dance-a-thon benefiting the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent.
About the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll:Launched in 2006, the honor roll recognizes institutions of higher education that support innovative and effective community service and serving-learning programs. Institutions are selected based on the scope, innovativeness, and effectiveness of the community service projects; percentage of student involvement; the integration of service work and academic learning; and staff support of service learning, among other factors.
