August 1 Proclaimed "President Daniel J. Elsener Day" in Indianapolis - 8/1/2011

Indianapolis mayor Greg Ballard has proclaimed August 1, 2011, "President Daniel J. Elsener Day" in the city. The proclamation comes on the 10-year anniversary of President Elsener's service to Marian University.
The average length of service for university presidents is about eight years; among central Indiana's five universities, Elsener is the senior ranking president. This continuity of leadership is a contributing factor to the university's success over the last decade.
President Daniel J. ElsenerIn response to the news of the proclamation, Elsener expressed his surprise and gratitude to Mayor Ballard. He also commented that his service to the university was more than just a job. "Marian University is part of who I am. I AM a Knight now, and will be forever."
Enrollment has doubled since 2000; this fall the university expects to enroll over 2,300 students. Elsener has also stabilized the university's financial position and attracted new and significant donors to support the mission. The $68.2 million capital campaign launched in 2002 has raised nearly $140 million to date, with over a year to go before the completion date in October 2012.
Record gifts ($30 million from an anonymous individual, multiple corporate gifts of $5 to $10 million) have also been given during his tenure, an obvious sign that Elsener's leadership is raising awareness of the university's mission and transforming its reputation throughout central Indiana and across the country.
