Marian University Professor Pierre Atlas Heads to China as Part of an International Delegation - 3/30/2011

Dr.Dr. Pierre Atlas, associate professor of political science and director of The Richard G. Lugar Franciscan Center for Global Studies at Marian University, will travel to China with a delegation from Global Indiana interested in exploring educational opportunities with Chinese institutions. Atlas is a board member of Global Indiana. The delegation, which includes Diane Thomas, president and CEO of The International Center of Indianapolis, and Weilin Long, director of the Asian Learning Center, a program of The International Center, will visit Beijing, Shanghai, and Hangzhou, a sister city to Indianapolis, from March 30-April 10, 2011.
In Hangzhou, Atlas plans to visit Zhejiang University and its political science department to explore study abroad and student exchange opportunities between the two universities. He will also interview candidates for a 2012-13 Fulbright Visiting Scholar position that will be housed at Marian University in The Richard G. Lugar Franciscan Center for Global Studies. Marian University professor Dr. Raymond Haberski is also a Fulbright Scholar and the current faculty associate for the Center for the Study of the Americas at Copenhagen Business School.
“Strengthening our connections with the Fulbright Program is an important initiative at Marian University,” said Dr. Tom Enneking, the provost at Marian University. “It’s an internationally recognized program of scholarship and achievement that champions cultural understanding and intellectual exchange,” he continued. Other Marian University professors have traveled internationally to present research or scholarship. Most recently, Dr. Rod Macrae presented a paper at High Energy Accelerator Research Organizations (KEK) in Japan. Macrea is an associate professor of chemistry and an internationally recognized researcher on the subatomic particle called the muon.
