The Global Studies Speaker Series Presents: "The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America….and the World" - 9/20/2010

Dr. Norman GevitzOn Tuesday, September 21, at 7 p.m., The Richard G. Lugar Franciscan Center for Global Studies will host a lecture entitled “The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America….and the World” by Dr. Norman Gevitz. The lecture will be presented in the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library auditorium on the Marian University campus. This lecture is part of the Global Studies Speakers Series sponsored by Citizens Energy Group.

Gevitz received his bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees in political science from New York University and his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago. He has taught at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine, and is currently professor of the history and sociology of medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine of New York Institute of Technology where he is now launching the Center for the Future of the Health Professions.

Gevitz is the author of more than 50 publications including The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America published by Johns Hopkins University Press, now in its second edition. He has received grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the United States Department of Education. He has received six honorary doctorate degrees and public service awards. He is currently working on a book contracted with Johns Hopkins Press to be entitled Puritan Medicine: Health and Healing in Seventeenth-Century New England.
