Since 2006, the Adolescent Literacy Conference has provided the opportunity for content area teachers (grades 4-12) to improve their knowledge base of content literacy acquisition. Educators will develop plans for 2010 fall implementation, and interaction between and among participants and facilitators on adolescent literacy issues is emphasized at this conference.
National presenters Jim Burke, an English teacher, author, and senior consultant to the Holt McDougal Literature program; Tim Shanahan, professor of urban education at the University of Illinois and director of the Center for Literacy; and Stephanie Quinlan, a mathematics teacher at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis and a winner of the 2003 AASL Collaborative School Library Media Award; will guide Indiana educators as they share possible solutions and strategies to make literacy acquisition possible for students.
Main presentations will take place in the Indianapolis Civic Theatre in Marian Hall; breakout sessions will be in classrooms throughout Marian Hall.
