Indianapolis Civic Theatre Announces Relocation to Carmel - 11/18/2009

Indianapolis Civic Theatre informed university officials on Tuesday, November 17, that it has decided to relocate its operation to Carmel. The theatre organization will be housed in the new performing arts center there. For the last five years, Marian University has been the home of Indianapolis Civic Theatre, and in that time we shared a wonderful partnership that created many interesting opportunities for our students, faculty, alumni, and staff. In that time, Civic was able to stabilize its audience, and expand both season ticket subscriptions and individual ticket sales. Clearly, the partnership with Marian University helped position Civic for further growth and its move to a new home in Carmel. We wish the staff and performers of Civic Theatre much continued success, and we expect Civic’s last season on our campus to be a joyful and successful one.

Civic’s departure from our campus was anticipated, and university officials have engaged in preliminary discussions with small arts groups and the Arts Council of Indianapolis about future partnerships. We believe that the 500-seat performance space in Marian Hall, office space, and parking previously utilized by Civic are excellent opportunities for other arts organizations. The Marian University campus is a vibrant arts scene. The renovation and expansion of the Steffen Music Center is nearly complete, and the marching band anticipates 90 students next year. As we continue to strengthen our own music, art, and theatre programs, we also look forward to exploring partnerships with local arts organizations and creating new opportunities for the central Indiana community to participate in the arts at Marian University.
