On Monday, October 27, 2008, Marian College will promote its championship cycling team at the Economic Club of Indiana luncheon. The luncheon's featured speaker is political analyst William Kristol.
Prior to the luncheon, Dean Peterson, the head cycling coach, along with several cyclists from the team will demonstrate the use of the team's CompuTrainer, a precision bicycle ergometer measuring wattage, heart rate, and cadence. USA Triathlon and the Canadian Cycling Association rely on CompuTrainer to test and train their national team athletes.
Approximately 500-750 business and community leaders attend the monthly Economic Club of Indiana luncheons at the Indiana Convention Center. Marian College is a sponsor. The college promoted its new green chemistry program at the September 24 luncheon.
About the Marian College cycling program:
Marian College is one of the few colleges where cycling is a varsity sport. On September 13, 2008, the team competed for and won the collegiate track cycling national championship, defeating other Division I schools including Penn State, University of California, and Colorado State University. This was the team’s 11th national championship. Marian College also hosts the Midwest Cycling Classic, one of the largest criterium races of the collegiate season.
