On October 11, 2007, Marian College finalized an agreement with the 21st Century Charter Schools at Fall Creek and Fountain Square to form Project IGNITE, an innovative program that will provide these schools with nine full-time tutors.
Project IGNITE is designed to improve students’ math and reading skills by providing them with the extra help they need to thrive. The program teaches students to become independent learners by using research-based learning strategies, in one-on-one and small group environments, to generate positive academic results. Approximately 400 Indianapolis students will benefit, a majority of whom are from low-income families.
The program will also benefit the Marian College students and future teachers who serve as tutors by giving them first-hand classroom experience and the opportunity to polish their teaching skills.
