Indianapolis Mayor Gregory A. Ballard, President Daniel J. Elsener, and Dr. Michael A. Evans
On August 24, 2011, Marian University broke ground and announced the name for the new Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences.


Beginning with the January 15, 2010, announcement that the university would begin developing a new medical school for Indiana, the news media across Indiana has followed the story closely. A front page story in the January 15, 2010, Indianapolis Star (the major daily in Indiana) broke the news. Every major television news affiliate has carried stories about the progress, and the Associated Press moved two stories nationwide. In addition, the new medical school project prompted several key healthcare leaders to write letters to the editors of The Indianapolis Star.

President Elsener and Dr. Paul Evans, dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine, were named to the Indianapolis Business Journal "Who's Who in Healthcare" list on September 5, 2011.


The College of Osteopathic Medicine and donor Michael A. Evans were prominently featured in the WTHR (Indianapolis NBC affiliate station) series "What's Cool in Your School" hosted by Bruce Kopp. The segment aired at 5:30 p.m. on September 19, 2011.


The university broke ground on the new building that will house the College of Osteopathic Medicine and School of Nusing on August 24, 2011. Coverage of the groundbreaking and naming ceremony for the Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences was extensive. Nationally, a story appeared in Catholic Health World, The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and Chicago Tribune. Locally, a front page story appeared in The Indianapolis Star and The Criterion; stories also ran in Indianapolis Business Journal and on the web sites of WTHR and WRTV (with video). Inside Indiana Business interviewed Dr. Michael Evans and President Elsener for a show that aired on August 26, 2011.

Dr. Paul Evans was a panelist on the Community Health Network roundtable discussion about healthcare, "Changes in Healthcare" on August 24, 2011; he was interviewed by Inside Indiana Business for a segment that aired August 28, 2011.


Marian University's college of osteopathic medicine received pre-accreditation status on May 4, 2011. The news was carried in The Indianapolis Star and Inside Indiana Business web site.


On April 28, 2011, the university announced a $1 million gift from Eli Lilly and Company Foundation. The news was covered by the Indianapolis Business Journal, The Indianapolis Star, and Inside Indiana Business.
