On August 24, 2011, Marian University broke ground and announced the name for the new Michael A. Evans Center for Health Sciences.

About Dr. Paul Evans 

Dr. Paul Evans, Vice President and Founding DeanDr. Paul Evans was named vice president and founding dean of Marian University's college of osteopathic medicine in August of 2010. A U.S. Army veteran of 26 years, Evans was also the founding dean of another college of osteopathic medicine: Georgia Campus, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee. He spent 12 years in osteopathic medical education, with the last six as dean. He has 16 years in medical education in the military, and has been in medical education teaching residents and students since 1982.

His teaching experience includes Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was associate dean for curricular affairs as well as professor of family medicine.

"From the beginning of our search process, we were looking for a person with exactly the attributes and experiences of Dr. Evans," said Marian University's president, Daniel J. Elsener. "His wealth of knowledge and abilities as a medical school administrator will benefit both Marian University and the state of Indiana," Elsener continued.

Evans has conducted research, lectured, and written extensively on primary care, managing low back pain, medical education topics, and faculty development. He has been successful in accreditation preparation, which is one of the next important milestones for Marian University. He is a certified inspector for the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA).

Evans is particularly interested in creating exceptional learning opportunities for new physicians in Indiana. "Being a part of the team that builds a new college of osteopathic medicine at Marian University is an extraordinary opportunity," he said. Alvey, III, DO, president of the Indiana Osteopathic Association. “The response from DOs around the state has been very encouraging and there is a lot of interest in helping as clinical faculty,” he continued.

Evans holds a bachelor of science degree from University of Miami, Coral Gables, and a doctor of osteopathic medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia.

Evans began his new position on September 1, 2010. On September 5, 2011, he was named to the Indianapolis Business Journal's "Who's Who in Health Care."
