Dr. Bryan Larsen, Ph.D. has been named associate dean for biomedical sciences of Marian University's college of osteopathic medicine. He is a well-respected scientist, faculty member, and former dean of research from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical School. Larsen has a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Iowa.
He is a former executive director at Iowa Center for Translational and Clinical Research. He was a professor of microbiology, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, and professor in medical humanities. His research intrests include pathogenic mechanisms of opportunistic microorganisms and sexually transmitted infections, pharmacokinetic behavior of antimicrobial drugs during pregnancy, medical informatics strategies for developing datasets and bio-repositories, and bacteria medicated gene expression in the placenta.
He serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Clinical and Laboratory Science and Infectious Diseases in Obstetrics and Gynecology, is president of the International Infectious Disease Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a member of the Faculty of 1000 Medicine.
Until 2001, he served to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve Mobilization Augmentee, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, in Washington, D.C. (Bacterial Diseases Branch, Division of Communicable Disease and Immunology).
