On Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m., there will be a lecture entitled “Fighting Malaria in Africa and Haiti” in the auditorium of the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library on the Marian University campus. It is the second annual Alumni Global Studies Lecture, sponsored by The Richard G. Lugar Franciscan Center for Global Studies.

This lecture will feature Dr. Joseph Keating ’93, assistant professor in the Department of International Health and Development at the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.

His current research focuses on Anopheles mosquitoes and malaria in urban environments of sub-Saharan Africa; the evaluation of a child survival project in Nigeria; the evaluation of an indoor residual spraying campaign in Eritrea; malaria control in Haiti; sentinel surveillance in Ethiopia; and insecticide-treated net use in Zambia.

This event is open to the public at no charge; registration is required. For more information, contact Dr. Pierre Atlas at lfcgs@marian.edu or 317.955.6336, or visit the global studies web site.
