Inaugural Alumni Global Studies Lecture on March 5 - 3/1/2009

On Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m., there will be a lecture entitled “Understanding China through its History” in the auditorium of the Mother Theresa Hackelmeier Memorial Library on the Marian College campus. It is part of the Global Studies Speaker Series, sponsored by The Richard G. Lugar Franciscan Center for Global Studies.

This two-hour lecture will feature Dr. Edward A. McCord, associate professor of history and international affairs in the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. He will discuss his experiences as a specialist in Chinese history, having lived and studied for five years in Taiwan and the People's Republic of China. McCord received his bachelor of arts degree in history from Marian College in 1973 and his master's and doctorate degrees in history from the University of Michigan.

McCord has lectured on Chinese history at the Foreign Service Institute and the Smithsonian Institution's Campus on the Mall program. He is currently working on a major book-length project that examines militia organizations in Republican China (1911-49).

This event is open to the public at no charge; registration is required. For more information, contact Dr. Pierre Atlas at lfcgs@marian.edu or 317.955.6336, or visit the global studies web site.
