Fine Arts Talent Award for Visual Arts

The Fine Arts Talent Award for Visual Arts is an annually renewable award for students who major in visual arts. The program will offer two awards, worth up to $6,000 each to entering freshmen.


Applicants for the Fine Arts Talent Award for Visual Arts must:

  • Have completed the Marian University admissions application process and been admitted in good standing.

  • Possess strong potential for academic success.

  • Major in visual arts.

  • Commit to an educational experience framed within the context of Marian University’s Franciscan values of dignity of the individual, peace and justice, reconciliation, and responsible stewardship.

Application Process

Interested students should send: a one-page, typed essay on why they want to be a fine arts major, along with 10 images of recent work (i.e. original work, no more than three images should be copies made from photographic material). Your submission (slides, CD, flash drive) should be accompanied by the following information:

  1. Student’s name
  2. Dimensions of works
  3. Medium
  4. Color dot in lower left corner (if slides)

If you would like your submission returned, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope with sufficient return postage. Only slides, CD's or flash drives, please!

Deadline for submission of essay and materials is January 4, 2013.


Awards will be made by the Department of Visual Arts.

Award notification will begin in mid-February.


The Fine Arts Talent Award for Visual Arts is renewable for seven consecutive semesters by:

  • Continuing as visual arts major.
  • Remaining in good academic and social standing.
  • Maintaining a B average in art courses.
  • Enrolling as a full-time student each semester with a minimum of 12 credit hours.
