Marian University to Dedicate the Frank A. Gale Integrative and Advanced Science Laboratory - 1/11/2012

On Wednesday, January 11, 2012 Marian University will dedicate the Frank A. Gale Integrative and Advanced Science Laboratory in Marian Hall. This modern chemistry lab will create more opportunities for Marian University’s science students to engage in scientific inquiry and pursue novel undergraduate research.
Frank A. Gale is the father of Marian University graduate Nancy Werner ’59. In some ways, Werner represents the beginning of a 50-year history at the university of preparing women for careers in chemistry. She was taught by one of Indiana’s pioneering female chemists, Sr. Mary Rose Stockton, OSF, who was one of the first women to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry in Indiana. Sr. Mary Rose helped found the Indiana chapter of Iota Sigma Pi, a national honor society for women in chemistry, in 1971 and served as the national organization’s historian for many years. Sarah Waller ’09 is a recent graduate who is earning her Ph.D. in chemistry at Indiana University, is one modern-era reference point.
