Karen Spear, Ph.D.
Director of the Center for Organizational Ethics
Assistant Professor of Theology and Philosophy
Dr. Karen Spear is the director of the Center for Organizational Ethics and an assistant professor of philosophy at Marian University. Spear received her Ph.D. in ethics from Vanderbilt University. She has an M.A. in religion and culture from Catholic University of America and a B.A. in political philosophy from Kenyon College.
In addition to directing the Center for Organizational Ethics, Spear teaches Human Nature and Person in the Department of Theology and Philosophy and Business Ethics in the School of Business.
Prior to coming to Marian University, Spear taught in the Department of Philosophy and Religion at the University of Indianapolis and worked as a research administrator at Methodist Research Institute, the biomedical
research center for Clarian Health.
She continues to serve as an ethics consultant on the Consent Review Committee, a subcommittee of the Clarian Health Institutional Review Board. Before settling in Indianapolis, Spear taught in the theology department at Valparaiso University in northwest Indiana and at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA.
