Carolyn Johnston, assistant professor of history, has a Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Irvine. She teaches modern European intellectual and cultural history, modern French history, women and gender history, and history and theory. She directs the European track of the history program.
Dr. Johnston also serves as the director of Marian's Honors Program and is director of the Tournées Festival, for which she won a prestigious grant from the French government. She has led multiple study abroad trips to Western Europe.
Dr. Johnston's research encompasses class, culture, and politics in nineteenth century Paris.
