Housing Policy

At Marian University, we believe that living on campus ensures that students gain the most from their college experience. College is a once in a lifetime experience. It is a time for self-exploration and preparation for the future. It is a time to attend sporting events, plays, lectures, concerts, and other campus activities. It is a time to meet new people and develop lifelong friendships. National studies on student success in college have reported that college students who live on campus achieve higher GPAs and feel more connected to their campus communities than students who live off campus.

The convenience of living on campus, freedom from most domestic responsibilities, and opportunities to live, learn, and connect with others, make on-campus living the best option for our students. Our approach to housing allows students to begin college in traditional housing and gradually move to more independent living each year. Doyle Hall is designated for first-year students. Our housing policy is stated below. Please contact the Office of Student Life at 317.955.6318 if you have any questions.

All single undergraduate students who do not return to their parent’s or legal guardian’s home each evening are required to live in college housing. Parent’s or legal guardian’s homes must be included in the following list of counties to commute: Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Shelby.

Students who have attained their 21st birthday on or before August 31 may request a policy waiver through the Office of Student Life.

Why Live On Campus, Anyway?

We could go on and on about all the reasons it makes sense for Marian University students to live on campus. But here are three of the best:
  1. Students who live on campus get better grades. It’s true! National statistics indicate students who live in campus housing earn higher grade point averages than students who live off campus.

  2. You’ll never miss out on everything going on here. Nineteen intercollegiate athletic teams. Over 30 student organizations. Theatre, music, arts. Not to mention just hanging out with your best friends. There’s always something going on at Marian University—and when you live here, you’ll never miss a thing!

  3. The thrill of the city; the security of Marian University. Safety and security are priorities at Marian University. Our police officers are on duty and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, so you know someone’s always looking out for you. We also have trained residential staff members living in every building. At the same time, we’re located just minutes from all the excitement of downtown Indianapolis and the Broad Ripple cultural district—so great shopping, dining, nightlife, and more are always close at hand.
