Students Take Third Place in Student Advertising Competition - 4/18/2011

Marian University’s Team Momentum placed third in the regional National Student Advertising Competition in Southfield, Michigan on Friday, April 15. This year’s challenge was a $100 million marketing communications campaign for JC Penney. The campaign used the tagline "your moment, your store." The campaign’s theme, "life’s moments," used text and visuals to create emotional connections through everyday moments experienced by the target market. The American Advertising Foundation’s National Student Advertising Competition is considered the premier advertising competition for college students.

"In the Clark H. Byrum School of Business, we continually focus on the connection between what is learned in the classroom and how to apply it in a business situation," says Professor Lori Rumreich, faculty advisor for Marian University’s team. "This competition does exactly that. Our team’s outstanding performance demonstrates the importance of experiential learning and its impact on students."

Marian University is part of district six. Competing this year were Adrian University, Augustana University, Ball State University, Butler University, University of Central Michigan, Columbia University, Eastern Michigan University, Ferris State University, Grand Valley State University, Marian University, Michigan State University, Northwood University, University of Notre Dame, Purdue University, Purdue University Calumet, University of Southern Illinois Carbondale, University of Southern Illinois Edwardsville, University of Southern Indiana, University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign, University of Michigan, Wayne State University, and Western Michigan University.
