Knightflix Wins Second Annual Student Business Plan Competition - 12/17/2012

The Clark H. Byrum School of Business showcased their new integrative, collaborative, and experiential approach to teaching business on Friday, December 7, when four finalists from the nine-hour, team-taught, integrated business experience course (BUS 109) presented their business plans to a panel of judges from the Clark H. Byrum School of Business' Board of Visitors (BOV).

Business presentation winners: MaKayla Cooke, Emma Diekhoff, Ryan Heuer, Mark Babbey, and Michael Carroll
Knightflix won the competition with their plan for an on-campus entertainment business providing movie theater and gaming tournament experiences to students.

"Our BOV judges have been very impressed with the quality of the students’ plans, their level of integration and analysis, and how professional their presentations have been. The BUS 109 faculty team attributes these results to our new approach that in this case connects accounting and economics with the business plan project," Russ Kershaw, Ph.D., dean of the Clark H. Byrum School of Business, said.

During the semester, 17 teams consisting of 85 first-year students developed business plans for businesses they could potentially operate on the Marian University campus. All teams presented their plans to panels of BOV members last week and the following four businesses were selected to advance to the finals:
  • Knightflix – on-campus entertainment business providing movie theater and gaming tournament experiences to students
  • Knight Armour – designs and sells affordable, non-traditional t-shirts that promotes school spirit
  • Knight Club – an under 21, on-campus dance club that enhances students’ experience at Marian University
  • Pennsylvania Dutch Funnel Delights – a business that makes and sells funnel cake products during a variety of Marian University events

Congratulations to the Knightflix team: Mark Babbey, Makayla Cooke, Michael Carroll, Emma Diekhoff, and Ryan Heuer. Expect to see Knightflix on campus in 2013.
