Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the Clark H. Byrum School of Business. We are not your typical business school. Our new learning model requires all of our students to DO business from day one.  Unlike other business programs, we make business happen, which connects values, leadership and action so our students can:

  • Dr. Russel Kershaw, Dean of the Clark H. Byrum School of BusinessExperience the global, competitive and dynamic nature of business
  • Engage with business people, projects and opportunities
  • Encounter the ethical dilemmas they will face in the business world
  • Enhance their understanding of how decisions affect all stakeholders
  • Formulate career plans and establish professional networks
  • Develop the skills and attributes that employers require
  • Become innovative, ethical leaders who can make a difference

We believe that actions speak louder than words and use a hands-on learning approach that requires students to interact with the business environment to solve integrative business problems. By participating in internships, projects and experiences, students will face difficult decisions that challenge their own as well as the Franciscan values taught at Marian University. Dealing with these challenging and sometimes messy business issues will require students to develop the key combination of skills (e.g. communication, collaboration, problem solving, ethics) and experience necessary for effective leadership.

By connecting values, leadership and action, we firmly believe that our students will be better prepared to launch and advance their careers while making a difference in the world. If you are looking for a business school that will teach you about business by having you read books, listen to lectures and take multiple choice exams then we might not be the best fit. However, if you are interested in learning about business by experiencing it and engaging with the problems and opportunities people in business face, then the Clark H. Byrum School of Business may be the right place for you.

On behalf of the Clark H. Byrum School of Business and Marian University, I again welcome you to our programs. Whether you are considering where to attend college or have already decided to study business with us, I invite you to send your comments, questions, and suggestions directly to me at rkershaw@marian.edu. I look forward to hearing from you.
